Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029.’ – Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, 96/100 (Feb 2010) I imagine the 2004 Runcot will continue to gain weight in bottle, but even if it doesn’t, it is pretty special today. The Runcot saw 45 days of maceration on the skins and spent 36 months in 100% new French oak, all of which it has absorbed with impeccable elegance. The purity of the fruit here is beyond striking, and the wine shows great intensity as well as superb overall balance. ‘The 2004 Barolo Riserva Runcot offers up an intriguing array of licorice, tobacco, spices, plums and prunes. Best from 2013 through 2035.’ – Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 98/100 (Mar 2011) Licorice and mineral notes play around the edges, while the tannins are well-integrated. ‘Sweet spices introduce this concentrated red, whose deep, sappy flavors of cherry and plum mesh effortlessly with the supple texture. It is particularly known for its single-vineyard Barolo cuvées. If any Italian wine from this decade can undeniably be called a reserve, it is the 2013 Barolo Riserva Runcot.Elio Grasso is an Italian wine estate located near Monforte d'Alba, in Piedmont. Then we went to Elio Grasso which was my favorite winery in Barolo because I. (The 2013 vintage will be released commercially in February of 2020, and this is the wine's first official review.) Gianluca Grasso holds the precious bottle I tasted from as if it were a newborn child. Elio Grasso Barolo Runcot Riserva 2010 from Barolo, Piedmont, Italy. able to taste and buy a couple bottles of their incredible Runcat Reserva. This vintage saw a relatively long growing season, and it offers greater fruit density, structure and acidity than the last edition that was made, the 2010. There is more vibrancy here and a true sense of energy brimming right there under the surface. The wine goes through 45 days of extended maceration post-fermentation and then a solid seven years of aging between oak and bottle. The resulting Riserva Runcot has a stunning bouquet that is all violets and prunes, followed by a classic palate of minerals, herbs, cinnamon and delicate wafts of white truffle. Elio Grasso’s wines are reasonably good value for money in Piedmont. This wine tells a story from nose to finish, like a flashing film reel. Much of the good work here is done in the fields and the wines therefore reflect their terroirs. This sturdy barolo is produced on the Elio Grasso Estate, located in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba, which has 42 hectares of land (24 are forests and meadows that surround the 18 hectares of vineyards) within the World Heritage site.

The wine undergoes a 40-day maceration time with four years in oak and one more year of bottle aging. This is a crowning achievement for the hard-working and passionate Grasso family, led by father Elio and son Gianluca.

A small production that rarely presents itself. Riserva Rncot opens to a beautifully tempered and expressive bouquet that exhibits elements of wild berry, forest floor, candied fruit, licorice, cola and dried ginger.
